MARCH: 12 DATES for COUPLES in 2022
When most people think of “date nights,” they think of dinners, movies, and special events. But any time spent together focused on the same goal can become a “date.” One great mood lifter and bonding activity is to serve together in some volunteer capacity.
One year, feeling blessed, I had a desire to give back. After brainstorming with my husband, we decided to sponsor a refugee family who had just arrived in the city. They had nothing but their clothes and an empty home, provided by a resettlement service. I called friends and family and requested donations of home goods. Within a few weeks, our whole garage was filled with kitchen items, clothes, household furnishings, and decorations. We scheduled a day, packed up our vehicles, and went to drop off all of the items to the family in need. Upon our arrival, we watched gleefully as they ran out of the house, barefoot, wondering what blessings we might have brought them. My husband and I were able to share parenting stories with the husband and wife, who were so grateful for all we provided to them. We were reminded, across cultures, love is love.
We left feeling as though, together, we had a common purpose– to make a difference in the world. We committed to making time and room in our budget to serve those in need, together.
