JUNE: 12 DATES for COUPLES in 2022

So my husband is more of a sports fan and I enjoy the arts. As the years have passed, we have both learned to find pleasure in watching each other indulge in our own interests.

I used to be jealous of how excited my husband got on Sunday afternoons during football season. I wondered why he never showed that same enthusiasm for spending time with me. Instead of making an issue of it, I decided to join him and see what his excitement was all about. I began to take the seat next to him on the couch on Sundays, often doing my own activity. I watched him work out all kinds of emotions as he cheered or scolded his team. I began to ask questions and he taught me about the game. Soon, I found myself glancing up from my book or laptop more and more, to see what was happening on the tv. By the end of the season, I looked forward to rooting for our team together every Sunday afternoon. It became a Fall tradition for us that I actually looked forward to!

And then when summer came around, it didn’t take much to convince my husband to join me at an art show or craft festival. He also quickly learned to vicariously enjoy things through my eyes. I discovered that as long as I kept a snack in his hand, he was happy to browse with me and find new decor for our home. He even started to know my style and surprised me with gifts from my favorite artists.

When you love someone, you can find joy simply by witnessing them enjoy the activities that they love! And sometimes, the joy even becomes contagious!
